Sen. Ted Cruz accused the Biden administration of overseeing the 'worst plague of slavery in America since the Civil War' on Monday releasing a gruesome video displaying the toll on migrant children.

It shows footage of children being rounded up along the southern border, and ends with images of young migrants found dead.

Throughout, Cruz keeps up a commentary describing a 'narco slave trade' and blaming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

'These children come in in debt to vicious cartels thousands and thousands of dollars,' he says.

'The teenage boys work for the gangs in every city in America, and the teenage girls experience a hell worse than that, with far too many of them human trafficked into sex slavery.

'Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are responsible for the worst plague of slavery in America since the Civil War.'

The Biden administration is grappling with record-breaking numbers of border crossings.

The latest estimates from the Department of Homeland Security forecast that an average of 441 unaccompanied children will cross the border and end up in custody every day this year.

In all, as many as 161,000 minors are expected to cross the border this year, according to leaked projections obtained by the Washington Examiner.

That represents an almost 50 percent increase on the previous year.

The result is a crisis that shows no sign of letting up, with Republicans keeping up their attacks on the White House and Democrats.

They say soft-touch border policies are creating dangers for migrants who are being abused by people smugglers.

'This is not compassionate. This is not humane. This is barbaric,' said Cruz over the graphic footage.

His video comes two weeks after he visited the border with other Republicans, and shows their convoy of vehicles touring the area.

'Just past midnight this morning, I was on the border in the Rio Grande Valley and I saw firsthand the human misery caused by Joe Biden’s open borders,' Cruz wrote on Twitter at the time.

Comments come as figures for June  show that CBP encountered 239,416 migrants last month alone. It means that in the last three months there have been 200,000 crossings each month

Crossings are at an all-time high with nearly 1.75 million crossings so far in fiscal year 2022 with the release of June figures last week.

The last quarter's figures show that 200,000 migrants passed through the southern border every month for the last three months.

But officials continue to insist that the border is not open, as Republicans claim.

'Look, the border is secure,' Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Matorkas said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado last week.

But he added that the administration was still 'working to make the border more secure.'

'That has been a historic challenge,' Mayorkas said, adding that there is a difference between the words 'safe' and 'secure.'
